Girona ensures continuity of the Anti-Discrimination House through the Commit to Rights project
The City Council of Girona will continue the Anti-Discrimination House and key actions on training, research and awareness following the European project Commit to Rights (2024–2026).
The City Council of Girona has concluded the coordination of the European project Commit to Rights / Compromís amb els Drets (2024–2026), an initiative aimed at developing inclusive and participatory local public policies to prevent and address discrimination.
The results of the project were presented during a public event attended by local stakeholders, professionals and citizens, where the main outcomes across four key areas were shared: victim support, research, training and awareness-raising.
One of the main outcomes of the project is the continuation of the Anti-Discrimination House, located in Girona, which will remain as a municipal service providing support to victims of discrimination. The service, previously delivered with the support of external organisations, will now be managed by municipal professionals.
In addition, a new Intervention Protocol for Anti-Discrimination Services in Girona has been developed collaboratively with local organisations and public services, providing a shared framework for action.
The project has also produced practical resources to address discrimination, including tools based on restorative approaches and new data collection systems to monitor and analyse cases.
In the field of research, the University of Girona presented preliminary findings from a report on discrimination in the city, based on a survey of 400 residents as well as interviews and focus groups.
Regarding training, a guide on equality and non-discrimination has been developed to support capacity-building among public service professionals, organisations and citizens. This resource will be made publicly available.
The project also included awareness-raising actions, such as the campaign “Privilege is invisible to those who have it”, as well as communication materials aimed at fostering public understanding of discrimination and human rights.
Beyond presenting the results, the event also featured the “Cities” project from Reggio Emilia (Italy) and a discussion on public-community methodologies for designing inclusive public policies.
Commit to Rights has been implemented in collaboration with several local and European partners and has received funding from the European Union under the CERV-2023-EQUAL call.
